Giant Fullys – Top Performance in Detail

The selection of mountain bikes in our large online shop is overwhelmingly large. Hundreds of brands, thousands of model lines, and numerous variants make the search for the right MTB more than difficult. So why should one choose a Giant Fully? What sets the Anthem, Trance, Glory, Reign, or Stache apart? It's well known that a Fully offers more riding comfort, better handling on difficult terrain, and more suspension travel for even more challenging trails, but what makes a Giant Fully special? What are the advantages over a comparable Hardtail? We will show you which characteristics make the full suspension mountain bikes from Giant so popular.

Maestro Suspension: The current Giant Fullys are equipped with the award-winning Maestro suspension system, which ensures stable and safe ride characteristics. The special decoupling isolates the drive from the rear structure, so irritating pedal bobbing does not even occur. Vibrations are effectively absorbed and enable full traction even on difficult terrain. The braking power of the Fully MTB remains completely intact, ensuring safe use in road traffic as well as off-road.

Ultra-light frames and innovative technologies

Advanced SL Carbon frames: The bike frame is the basis for a good full suspension mountain bike. Giant invests a lot of time and energy in developing and manufacturing stable and lightweight frames. The ultra-light carbon frames with Advanced SL Composite technology score points with a superior weight-to-stiffness ratio. Nothing is left to chance in production – the carbon fibers for the solid material are manufactured and developed by Giant itself. CNt technology is not comparable to other methods of bicycle frame manufacturing. It adds microscopically small polymers to the specially made plastic for Giant, increasing durability and improving vertical and horizontal stiffness. A very welcome property for Giant Fullies, which have to withstand and channel numerous forces at high speeds.

OverDrive 2: Many fully mountain bikes from Giant rely on the OverDrive 2 technology, a further development of the successful OverDrive system. It promises a 30% higher torsional rigidity than its predecessor and ensures better steering precision even in tight corners or bumpy terrain. The oversized headset and a tapered head tube work in perfect harmony, enabling playful handling with low weight.

27.5“ Technology: After the 26" wheel size had to practically abdicate in recent years, Giant Fullies now only rely on the 27.5- and 29-inch size. This is a good thing because the larger wheels offer many advantages at a moderately increased weight. For example, 27.5" wheels weigh only 5% more than 26s, but offer significantly better roll-over behavior, better traction, and better acceleration. The situation is quite different with a 29-inch full bike. Naturally, the weight increase due to the construction is more noticeable here.

Wide Giant Fully Range

FlexPoint Suspension: Another feature of the Giant Fully is the FlexPoint Suspension technology. Thanks to the bending elements of the rear chain stay and the seat post, complex pivoting joints and connections are avoided, meaning the MTB remains light, effective, and low maintenance. The weight is not affected by this, so the ride behavior is not impaired.

The main benefits of this technology are the single-pivot suspension design and the pliant effect of the chainstays, which make riding safer off-road and provide a durable and simple system. Moreover, it has similar benefits to conventional multilink suspensions, but with fewer costs and less maintenence.

Fullies for Every Wallet: Giant is always keen to develop its high-tech bikes further and push the limits of what is possible. However, the Vietnamese manufacturer also tries to please customers with smaller wallets at the same time. Therefore, the range includes not only high-tech bikes like the Anthem, Glory and Reign models in the Advanced variant, but also fullies like the Stance and the Trance, which offer excellent performance for a little money. The bikes offer a high-quality aluminum frame, solid component equipment, and some innovative technologies that can also be found in the Giant Fullys of the highest price category.

New Models: Trance 29 and Stance

The Trance 29 is set to usher in a new generation of trail bikes, with the aim of maximizing riding enjoyment at the top of its list. To this end, Giant teamed up with suspension specialists DVO, who were responsible for designing the bike's suspension. The result is an unusual combination of a 130mm fork and 115mm shock, as well as optimized geometry that features a slacker head angle, longer top tube, and shorter chainstays.

The new Trance will be available as a Advanced Pro 29 with a carbon frame and Trance 29 with an aluminum frame. The latter offers the same features and technologies as the former, but will be heavier due to the material. The Trance Advanced Pro 29 0 is a special treat for trail fanatics: the top model comes with a suspension developed and professionally tuned specifically for the Trance.

The new Giant Stance 1 comes with a revamped ALUXX aluminum frame and 27.5" wheels, but is also ready for Plus tires to provide even more control and comfort on the trails. With the innovative FlexPoint shock mitigation at the rear, you get a softly responsive 120mm of travel, while a RockShox Recon fork with 120mm travel works at the front. For $1,799, you also get tubeless tires, a dropper seatpost, and a complete Deore setup from Shimano. So if you're looking for a versatile trail bike for a small price, the Stance 1 is the perfect choice.

Other current models: Anthem 29 and Reign The geometry of the Anthem 29 was changed to maximize the potential of the 29-inch wheels. The head angle is a sporty 69 degrees, while the seat angle is a fairly slack 73.5 degrees. The top tube was also lengthened to allow the rider to sit more stretched out on the bike, while the reach and chainstays are moderately long to create a healthy balance between aggression and responsiveness. The Anthem is thus a dynamic racer that can also handle trails.

The Anthem's Maestro suspension system with Trunnion Mount was used from 2017 on some Giant Fullies and has found its way to the Anthem since 2018. 90mm of travel is on the books here, which should be perfectly adequate for its intended use. The fork, on the other hand, swallows a standard 100mm of travel. Additionally, the shock leverage ratio was significantly reduced in order to release the entire stroke and take full advantage of the suspension travel. Both suspension components can be completely locked out to deliver more pedal power to the road.

The new Anthem 29er will be available in two full carbon models. In addition, there will be a carbon variant with an aluminum rear end and two pure aluminum versions.

Do you prefer fewer races and more trail fun? Then check out the Giant Reign 2018. Noticeable here: As with the Anthem 29, the Trunnion Mount shock has also found its way onto the Reign, gifting the Enduro missile 160mm of travel at the back. In addition, the frame and geometry were given a facelift with the goal of making the bike more aggressive, faster, and more enjoyable. Enduro World Series rider Josh Carlson served as a consultant and incorporated his feedback, which resulted in some noticeable changes. The top tube was made 20mm longer and the wheelbase increased to provide more stability on difficult and fast sections. Thanks to the new shock, Giant promises more travel at a lower leverage ratio. In addition, the brand switched from Giant carbon wheels to aluminum, using DT Swiss models instead. Since 2018, the model line is available in the Advanced version with a carbon main frame and aluminum rear triangle. The Reign is also available as a pure aluminum version, in a special SX version with an extra 10mm of travel at the front.
